Sahaja Yoga Australia

Uncle Alfred Hewitt passed away last night: What a wonderful life.

Jai Shri Mataji!

Dear Yogis,

We share with you the sad news that our much loved elder, Uncle Alfred Hewitt, passed away last night after a long battle affecting his health.

Uncle Alfred was a simple man moved not by the material concerns of the world. He was driven by a higher calling to strive to be the best he could.

Uncle Alfred took the pilgrim’s path which carried him all over the world, until he discovered Sahaja Yoga where he found his life’s calling.

Uncle Alfred was a simple man and a much loved member of our Collective. He shared his philosophies and reflections of his journeys as an analogy for one’s life and spiritual journey.

Uncle Alfred Hewitt was 85 years old, and by many accounts, led a remarkable life. In the 1970’s, he traveled overland from Australia to Europe then through SE Asia.

Uncle Alfred then traveled through Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria, Iran, Turkey and into Europe. He then flew to Washington, purchased a bicycle and proceeded to cross America coast to coast by the power of sheer will expressed through his humble bicycle.

Uncle Alfred then traveled down the West Coast of the US to Mexico on his trusted bicycle and into Guatemala. Upon his return to Australia he then circumnavigated around Australia on his bicycle.

As an environmentalist, he was involved in the green campaigns to save the South West Forests from logging. It was at this point in is life that he discovered Sahaja Yoga and joined the Collective in Canberra. Uncle Alfred, with his trusted sidekick ‘Fruitcake’ the dog, served for many years as the Balmoral Caretaker before taking up the caretakers role for Gidgegeganup Ashram.

Uncle Alfred lived his life to the full with no regrets. He found his spiritual path and experienced Shri Mataji’s Love which was the light which illuminated his life. Uncle Alfred was a liberated soul free, true, and strong. We give thanks for his inspiring life, which touched the lives of so many people.

Details of the service will be shared by the NSW Council once they are available.
