Shri Bhairava Jayanti – 16th Nov 2022

Celebrating Shri Bhairava’s Birthday

“…one has to know that this is the work of Bhairavnath within us … He gives us light in darkness … He destroys all the bhoots within us.” Shri Mataji

Dear Family,

Jai Shri Mataji!

Today, the world collective worships our Holy Mother in Her Divine aspect of Shri Bhairava.

(Shri KaalBhairavnath – Swayambhu in Kathmandu Nepal)

Shri Bhairava, also known as Saint Michael or Saint George, protects our left side and incarnated as William Blake in London on 28th November 1757.

To celebrate this auspicious event, we have compiled some information and videos to mark this special time.

We hope you enjoy this contribution towards our subtle understanding of Shri Bhairava and His many divine aspects.

Shri Mataji about Shri Bhairava and William Blake

“I knew who he was, what he is doing, why he was here. We do not know about him much, because from the books you can’t understand who he could have been. He was an incarnation of Bhairavanath, that is whom you call Saint Michael, or Saint George who is as you know the Saint Angel of England.”

“…one has to know that this is the work of Bhairavnath within us … He gives us light in darkness … He destroys all the bhoots within us. And all kinds of bhootish ideas and funny ideas about attachments and also the depressiveness. So, today we are, I am very happy that we are worshipping Shri Bhairava because He is very much connected with Ganesha. As you know Shri Ganesha is at the Mooladhara and while Bhairava moves onto the left side and goes to the right side. So, all kinds of conditionings, all kinds of habits, can be conquered through the help of Bhairavnath.”

Shri KaalBhairavnath – Swayambhu

This photo of Shri KaalBhairavnath was taken in Nepal during a trip of Yogis to Mount Kailash. Shri Mataji had mentioned about this statue in Her 1989 Bhairava Puja talk above.

In Linda’s book, there is a miracle story about this Swayambhu. Once Shri Mataji visited this statue with yogis and She washed His feet. Then She asked them to look at His face. And all of them found Shri Bhairavnath’s fierce face had changed and He was smiling like a little child. Jai Shri Mataji!

Shri Mataji about Shri Bhairava Swayambhu

“In Nepal, we have a very huge, big Bhairava-nāth* statue which is really a Swayambhu and people are more left-sided, so they are afraid of Bhairava-nāth. So if somebody has a bad habit, say, of stealing, they take him in front of Bhairava-nāth and make a flame… and they ask them: ‘Now, say before Bhairava-nāth’ confess it.’ And they confess what wrong they have done.”

*(In India the term of respect ‘nāth –‘lord, master’ is almost always added to Shrī Bhairava’s name.)

Bhairava – ‘Roaring fearfully’ is a terrifying aspect of Śhrī Śhiva, who guards the Subconscious and presides over the Left Channel. He carries out the Cosmic Dissolution at the End of Time. In the Christian tradition, He is the Archangel Michael and Saint George, both slayers of dragons (Satan).
